When the Germans started killing the people under 12 years old and over 50 years old I felt extremely sad and mournful for all the kids, and grandparents that were killed in the holocaust. I also felt bad for the mothers because they were just so happy from birthing a child and then a few months later their child gets thrown into the fire. “Not far from us,flames, huge flames, were rising from a ditch. ...small children. Babies!...children thrown into the flames...there was a larger pit, for adults(Wiesel 32).” I can only imagine the horror the mothers and fathers would have felt for seeing their newborn child tossed into the fire… When Mrs. Shӓchter was screaming”Look! Look at this fire! This terrible fire! Have mercy on me!(Wiesel 25)” I was surprised that they bound her up and started beating her. I know she was screaming and frightening the group, but she was just an older middle aged woman that they knew for years and as soon as she did that they tied her up and beat her until she did not want to yell anymore. It is almost like the germans planted 2 men in there to keep them in check.

  2. Hi Jameson,
Overall, this is a wonderful reflection. I loved the text evidence and the way you reacted to them. However, I think you need to proofread and write about Elie's writing style. Nicely done!

  3. Jameson,

Your post is well written. My only suggestions would be to write about Wiesel's writing style and to continue your discussion of the quote about Mrs. Schächter. I would like to know what you thought about her in a storytelling sense. Do you think Wiesel used the nonfiction events regarding her as literary tools?

    Well done,

    Parker
