Blog Post #2-Ella

After the liberation of their concentration camp, a subcamp of Buchenwald, several prisoners gather, concentrating around an unknown object, in what seems disbelief. While doing this they appear to be solemn, even after the liberation. It looks as though only one of the men noticed the camera, but cannot bring himself to smile, or deems that the moment does not call for one. This photo intrigued me. One would think, even after the horrors of the Holocaust, that the prisoners would be exuberated at the thought, and ultimetly the action, of liberation. That alone speaks to the atrocity of the Nazi party, something that I cannot even begin to fathom.
Ella,
ReplyDeleteGood job, I like the choice of words that you use when you describe the different emotions and feelings about this picture. Just try to describe more how the liberated prisoners feel about being free.
This was very well written Ella, good job. You talk about the man not smiling even after liberation. Do you think you could tie that lack of emotion into Night? Think about how Elie Wiesel looks at himself as a corpse after his liberation. Could it be that the men in the picture feel the same way?
