In the 1940s the Warsaw Ghetto was the biggest in all of German-occupied Europe. There were 400,000 Jews imprisoned there in cramped living quarters with meager food rations. Nearly all of the Jewish population there died within the three years of its existence. 250,000 people were sent to Nazi killing centers and more than 100,000 were killed by the German Military or Hunger related causes. This is a picture of the ruins of the Ghetto after the Germans destroyed it in 1943. It brings feelings of remorse but also hope. The lone tree in the field of rubble is symbolic of how through destruction, life perseveres.
James,
ReplyDeleteI loved how you used the tree to really connect to something deeper. It really shows that you didn't just pick a picture and just write something about it. You did a great job saying how you felt about the photo. Well done!
The background you gave was very helpful to me, as this seemed rather symbolic. The symbolism and digging deeper was very interesting to read about, and I loved your connections. I was wondering what your thoughts were on why the Germans destroyed the Warsaw Ghetto, but all in all, nice job!
ReplyDeleteHi James,
ReplyDeleteOverall, I love how you capture every aspect of the picture in your description. I also like how you give background details about the Warsaw Ghetto, however, I think that you didn't need the part about the killing centers. It seems a bit off topic. Great job!
