Blog post 4- Stella
When we first started to study the Holocaust, i did not fully understand how terrible it was. I didn't get that people had to walk hundreds of miles on a death march. When I thought of the Holocaust, I thought of people like Hitler killing other people, not the concentration camps and ghettos. Now when I go back and I think of all these things. I understand it more, instead of just Hitler I can imagine people running around with machine guns in my head, just like in Life Is Beautiful. I imagine all the terrified Jews, praying that they would not make one wrong move because if they did, they would be shot. This film changed my perspective a lot, even though it did not really reveal how terrible the concentration camps were. Even though it didn't i thought it was a good way of showing what had happened but not overwhelming the person watching. I feel that if everyone was well educated on this topic, there would be no chance of it ever happening again. Because not everyone knows what was really happening there, yet they probably know the obvious things. But not everyone knows about the smaller things, and they matter. For example, many people did not know how some Nazis tried to gain the jews trust before putting them in ghettos. In Wiesel's Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance speech, he talked about the reasons he wrote Night and the reasons why he thought it was so important for him to make sure everyone knew about the Holocaust. The main reason was that he thought it should never happen again. That no one should have to go through anything like this ever again. This is true, if everyone read night, or listened to his speech, or watched Life is Beautiful then no one would have to worry about that. And that is the way it should be.
Stella,
ReplyDeleteI thought that you did a very nice job saying what you got out of this unit. I agree that if everyone was better educated on the topic, there would be less of a change of this happening again. Great job!
hi stella,
ReplyDeleteGood job the general theme is very strong, but you should try to list some more examples of things that people did or what the nazis did to them. Otherwise good job it was a strong piece of literature.
