Faith by Max
The Almighty, the eternal and terrible Master of the Universe, chose to be silent.
May His name be celebrated and sanctified
What are You, my God?
Why do you go on troubling these poor people's wounded minds, their ailing bodies?
Why, but why would I bless Him? Every fiber in me rebelled.
All the earth and universe are God's!
Why should I sanctify His name?
Because He caused thousands of children to burn in His mass Graves?
Because in His great might, He had created Auschwitz, Birkenau, Buna
Praised be His Holy Name, for having chosen us to be slaughtered on His altar?
But look at these men whom You have betrayed, allowing them to be tortured, slaughtered, gassed, and burned, what do they do?
I felt myself to be stronger than you to whom my life had been bound
"Where He is? This is where—hanging here from this gallows."
We believed in You.
What are You, my God?
I have more faith in Hitler than in anyone else.
Hey Max,
ReplyDeleteNicely done! Even though my topic is similar to yours, you brought a different perspective for me. One of the most standout lines for me is "Because in his great might, He had created Auschwitz, Birkenau, Buna". It just makes me think abut how angry some people must have been to supposedly have a God they put their trust in, and have it all taken away in seconds. Really nice.
Nicely done Max! The theme of faith is very powerful, and important in Night. The questions that you kept posing are very relatable to anyone who went through this, as this was probably
ReplyDeletevery tough for people to contemplate. The final line, “I have more faith in Hitler than in anyone else,” is the most profound line to me. It really shows how people saw God and Hitler as more likely to follow through on their promises. Good job.
