Final Blog Post - Siole Bailey
The theme that impacted me the most was faith. Even though the Jews knew they were about to be taken to the crematorium, they still had faith. Even though they knew they were about to be shot, they still had faith. Even though they knew they were about to be put in the gas chambers, they still had faith. I learned that even though you feel like you’re about to give up or it is not working out for you, you need to still have faith. This matters and can connect with the world today because having faith makes everything better. For example, if you are getting ready for a test in a class you struggle. You might feel like you’re not going to do a good job on the test. Have faith. Study. Talk to your teacher. When you have faith and believe you can do it and, you will be shocked by the outcome. You either get a good score or you don’t. All that matters is that you had faith and believed that you could do it. You can try and retake the test and you might just get the grade score you were hoping to get. Faith gives people confidence and the ability to never give up. Elie Wiesel had faith even though there were so many killings going on around him during the Holocaust. He survived the Holocaust with faith. That is a great example of how faith can do wondrous things. In the movie, Life is Beautiful, all the father wanted was to save his family. He hid his son multiple times and had faith in saving his only son. The father died, but his son survived the Holocaust. The father had faith in being able to save his family. His wife and son survived even though he didn’t. All he wanted to do was save his family and wasn’t thinking at that point to save himself. This story also relates to African American people. They were being treated as enslaved people and they did all the work. They had a terrible life just like the Jews. Like the Jews, enslaved people had to live in buildings or sheds that were in terrible conditions. Like some Jews, some enslaved people tried to run away and many got caught, except for the remarkable few like Harriet Tubman. There is a lot of resemblance to how the Jews were being treated and how the enslaved people were being treated. Just like the father in Life is Beautiful, Harriet Tubman went back and forth to rescue as many enslaved people as possible. Harriet Tubman made 13 missions to rescue approximately 70 enslaved people, including family and friends, using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad. Overall, even though the enslaved people were tired and working hard, they still had faith. They still believed that they could be free one day.
Siole,
ReplyDeleteI liked your post a lot. You make good connections to today. You also make good connections to the slavery era. The part about how faith can help you was excellent. Good job.
Hi Siole,
ReplyDeleteI like how you said that the theme was faith and you found a way to connect it to the way a test in school would be. I also like how you connected victims of the Holocaust with enslaved people. I like the flow of your post. Good job!
