Blog Post #3- James
Hunger
Days without food or water
The beloved bread
Tormenting us
We dreamed more of an extra portion of food
than of liberty
Eat anything, anytime
it is every man for himself,
and you cannot think of others.
Not even your father.
The need for food
was greater than the fear of death
Beasts of prey unleashed
kill for a crust of bread
to satisfy our hunger
have mercy!
James, your poem is great. I love how you ended it with have mercy. The people who thought it was ok to force someone to go through this were insane. They were very cold hearted and the word "mercy" reminds me of the desperate plead of the Jews for their lives.
ReplyDeleteGreat job James! This was a well thought out poem, with each verse still tying to the theme. In this, two of the most compelling verses appeared at the end. “Beasts of prey unleashed, kill for a crust of bread” both resonated with me, showing how something so trivial at the beginning of the novel, was able to become something of life or death, or the biggest focus in one’s life. Your ending felt appropriately like a final plea both to have food, and to preserve the little dignity that the prisoners had by not forcing them to fight among themselves for scraps.
