"It’s Not Lethal" by Ella

It’s Not Lethal
I remember,
Tears, like drops of wax, flowed from his eyes.
It’s not lethal he said,
Farewells do not last forever.
Then the shadows around me roused themselves as if from a deep sleep
Leaving  silently in every direction.
Torn from their dreams, story remaining unfinished,
The train disappeared over the horizon
Turning my life into one long night seven times sealed.
We had arrived face-to-face with the Angel of Death,
Damned souls wandering through the void,
Seeking redemption, Seeking oblivion,
Without any hope of finding either.
Everything was fading into a fog
That murdered my God and my soul,
Turned my dreams to ashes,
As the blows continued to rain.
All we had left were the memory of our good-byes
To clench our teeth and wait
Keep our anger, our hate, for another day
And remember,
It’s not lethal

  1. Ella,

That was excellently done. All throughout your poem, I felt a yearning to help. Especially the line "Turning my life into one long night seven times sealed". I've heard that phrase tons of times, but your poem gave me a new perspective on it. Amazing job!

  2. Hi Ella,

I love how you portrayed the theme of hopelessness throughout your entire poem without ever saying it directly. It really added to the overall flow of the poem. I think that all of your lines are impactful, as I could not find any to comment on! Great job!
